The Stray

On a cold and rainy morning
Many years ago
The Lord would open His door, so wide
For He heard the whimpering
Of painful cries outside

There sitting all alone, and Oh, so sadly lost
He viewed a lonesome and ragged stray
Pleading for some comfort
In need... He looked upon begging eyes

The Lord said, "Come on in my little one,
My home I'll share with you
Never will you need for anything
My love I'll give so true"

Through the years the stray would flourish
Where once was dull and sunken eyes
Where once was only skin and bones
A beautiful soul and heart... now lies

Through the years
That have since past
It is His love, I'll share everyday
For it wasn't that long ago... you see
It was I... that was the stray
