The Book
The Book

I'm so ashamed to say
I took "The Book" off my shelf today
And as I looked upon its cover
A dried rose fell to the floor
It had lain once upon my fathers casket
A wonderful man that I adored
And when I turned the delicate pages
I found a little more
Dates of marriages and births
When babies were happily born
The dates and names of loved ones also
Who have gone to heaven to stay
Holding it gently in my hands
I tried to blow the dust away
But it had clung to the leather, for way to many years
So I took a dusting cloth, as I held it in my hands
Washing off the leather, with all my shameful tears
Then as if to open my eyes
In beautiful gold, "The Holy Bible" appears
So Dear Lord, please forgive me
Of the way I've cherished, "The Book"
Know for the rest of my life
It will be laid out for all to look
So when I walk past it
If that day I have no time to read
I'll touch it and I'll say,
"I give all Thanks to Thee"
Thank you, Dear Heavenly Father
For all things most precious and true
I thank You for my wonderful life
All the blessing I receive from You
For all the babies and family
That I have loved through out the ages
For reminding my heart of the rose
That now lies between the pages
