Only Time
Only Time
I stood upon the rivers edge
Youth would whisper and say, "Let's play."
Only time... will call reflections,
Of brown that now is gray.
And when the skin was soft and taut,
A face now laced with lines.
Not a worry in my day,
Oh, yes the world was mine!
With sundrenched hair, all down my back,
When the sun would cast it's light.
Droplets of water dancing down each strand,
Like diamonds, my crown it shined.
I was so very rich back then.
Oh, yes the world was mine!
Only time reveals the years
Of a youth that once was told.
Sometimes fading...
Over the years that I have grown.
Only time reveals the knowledge,
That my mind has come to behold,
Through the years of many memories,
Times that I have known.
So upon the edge of the riverbank,
Grows not just trees and vine galore,
But imprinted images in my mind,
For only my eyes to adore.
And when I gaze into the river,
The reflection that I see...
Is still that little dark haired girl...
smiling back at me
