My Little Box Of Treasures

My Little Box Of Treasures

I have a little box
Where I save special treasures... for myself
For when I want to remember times
I take it off the shelf

When you open the lid...
The things that you may find
May not be treasures to you
But they are within my mind

In my little box of treasures
You may see a baby tooth or two
And a little cut out paperboy...
Colored with jeans of navy blue

If you dig real deep...
You will find a little more
A silver ring with an emerald stone...
That once my mother wore

And if you twirl your finger around
A rock you might see
With the purest of innocent love
My child gave this to me

A set of... tarnished pearl earrings
Delicately wrapped in tissue
Of monetary value... there really is none
Yet, they remind me of my grandmother's love...
All that she had done

A seashell... I picked up from the beach
Where tiny grains of sand... deligently cling
And when I hold it near my ear
I still hear the ocean sing

Today in this little box,
I placed a special prayer
That my child and I...
recite every night
To remind us of Gods blessings
Adding those we hold so dear

So now I'll close the lid,
And I'll place it back upon the shelf
These are gifts from and for the heart
For now... that I keep just for myself

One day... as I hand it down
I will tell my child... the value of each
For in each item... that he may find
There is a message and a gift...
That will last for a lifetime

Every once in awhile,
I'll add a brand new treasure
All these things are more valuable than gold
And to me... priceless beyond all measure
