Secret Dreams

Secret Dreams

I rode a dream above the sea
Where salty winds did beckon me
Where dolphins played within the waves
As seagulls sang sweet serenades

My heart felt an overwhelming joy…
In my new found flight
There I danced among… the sparkles
Of twinkling… reflecting starlight

Yet, in this dream…as I looked below
Where moonbeams cast a golden glow
Through a window… upon the shore
A little girl was crying…
Her name …I did not know
Her heart seem filled with painful tears
Of lonesomeness and sorrows fear

Lighting upon her window sill
I whispered… “Come and fly with me awhile…
My dreams will hold you near…
Together…if you will let me
I can wipe away those tears”

There in a gentle breeze
She took my hand… and found her wings
Where darkness turned to starry night
We shared our secret dreams in flight

There we soared above the shores
Across the waters blue
For kindness… can be shared with all
In the little things we do

Oh, We laughed and giggled
We sang a song or two
She looked at me with smiling eyes
Saying, “I’m having so much fun…
I hope that you are, too!”

When dreamtime would come to an end
Like a baby… I held her in my arms
I gently lay her upon the bed
As I pulled the covers to her head

She closed her eyes and went fast to sleep
Upon her face… just like my own
I saw a smile
Of a dream she found so very sweet

Thinking of my dream last night…
As I walked upon the beach
I came upon a little girl playing in the sand…
Somehow her facial features…
Seemed etched within my mind

There she looked at me and whispered…
“Come and fly with me awhile”
I said, “Was I in your dream last night...
Or were you in mine?
She said, “It doesn’t really matter, does it?”
And she took my hand… this time
