Today I Started The Fifth Grade

Today I Started The Fifth Grade

Today I started the fifth grade
Even though... I’m forty-two
There's english, science, social studies...
With lots of math to do

Today I started the fifth grade
When I dropped my son off at school
And when he shared his homework…
 opening up his books
I think he saw the bewilderment…
As upon my face he would look

There are times… it seems to me
My mind is just a rusty tool
For I don’t ever recall... doing this math
Even when I was in high school

Sometimes… I’ll have to admit
I feel so un-cool
Especially when my son says,
“Don’t worry Mom… I’ll help you”

Today I started the fifth grade
No time to play or just relax
And if they decide... to test the parents
I just hope and pray… I pass the TAKS!!!
