Dear Daddy

Dear Daddy

I take my morning’s journey… early
Where the smell of coming rain…starts to fill the air
For soon I know… within my hands
I’ll hold your favorite flowers…
The ones I’ll pick here and there

As I seek them today…
I recalled our wonderful walks once taken here
On this shady… country road
Hand in hand just you and I
Where once you called this daughters name...
so many years ago

Where the music of your voice…
Still sings to my heart so sweet
In memories so beautiful and vibrant
Dear Daddy, It is there…
We still get... the chance to meet

In these moments…
When it seems to others who pass by…
That I walk this path alone
Unseen by their eyes…
I still hold your hand... within my very own

So when the raindrops start to fall today…
That is when I’ll shed my lonely tears
Camouflaging my emptiness… so no one else can see
How deeply… your absence… has affected me

Walking through the gate today…
With my Father’s Day gift in hand
Finding my way… once more
I pause to read your name upon the headstone
Placing a kiss upon my fingertips…
I gently touch it so

Kneeling here I hold the flowers
Where they seem to bloom… within my hands
Glittered with the teardrops…
This daughter of yours, can’t help… but find

These flowers… seem so inadequate
For all you ever gave to me
Yet, I know when I cross... that crystal shore
It will be there... I'll take your gentle hand once more
