The Feast
The Feast
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours
I can smell the cornbread cooking
The beans are on the stove
Soon we'll gather around the table
With all the ones we love
Peeling the yellow onions
As the tears swell in our eyes
Yet, We are so glad to be here
Laughing as we cry
The turkey and dressing is nearly ready
It will come out of the oven soon
While we stir the sliced potatoes
As they gently stew
Talking with our family and friends
As the aroma fills the room
What an inviting treat, all the homemade pies
As I look around me, my heart begins to sigh
Oh, What wonderful memories
We will take home with us today
But first, we take a few moments
To bow our heads and pray
Giving Thanks to The Lord
For the food on this blessed day
For safely bringing our family and friends
That live so far away
Recalling our dear loved ones
Who have gone to heaven to stay
The room soon fills with chatter
And laughter to behold
Remembering the good old days
With new stories yet to be told
It's not just the Feast, within this room I see
It's the love for The Lord, our friends and family
We take this with us
When ever we do part
The best Feast of all
Is the one that feeds the heart
