A Blessing In My Eyes
For Kris, Who has been my greatest teacher of the heart
September 20, 1988
Twenty three years ago... today
God would send a child my way
With some tears, and so much joy
He blessed my heart, with this baby boy
I held him close
And soothed his cries
With little songs
Of sweet lullabies
Then his tears
Would become my own
In all the challenges
That we have known
For it wasn't just a baby
That God would send my way
But a blessing in my eyes
To help me see His grace
Though he'll never marry
Or have children of his own
God has given me the gift of love
In the years that we have known
And I find... I'm not the teacher
I think that it is he
Filling my heart with inspiration and hope
You see...it is my son
Who teaches me
And when the days have added up
Oh, No I'll not be sad
Through the eyes of my child
My soul can see much clearer
In the love that I give and receive
I find... I hold our Lord much nearer
