In His Image
In His Image

God made man in His image
So the scriptures say
He formed them with His hands
Gently, molded them of clay
So many thousands of years ago
He had a beautiful plan
And so sat down and out of clay
Molded His image into man
With His far reaching wisdom
He sat the earth, as a stage for a play
And formed and shaped each character
From the substance the Bible calls clay
Of course there must be heroes
And the villains, who courage did lack
Then He began shading His people
Some Red, Yellow, White and Black
When He had finished His handiwork
He sat back with a sigh to rest
And surveyed the works of His labor
Trying to pick the ones, He liked best
But like any good dear Father
He found Himself in a test
Because they were all His children
He couldn't love one, more than the rest
Then His children began to squabble
And fight for the glory in His eyes;
Each one wanted to be chosen
And wind up with the prize
Over the centuries they fought each other
And fallen deeper and deeper in sin
And forgot that God made them all brothers
Regardless of color of skin
God has sat patiently watching
As we grope through each scene of the play
And often with tears, and pain in His heart
Has regretted His man made of clay
Yet one more scene He keeps giving
With hopes... love and wisdom might be found
But He'll not allow many more bad performances
Until He brings the final curtain down
