Out there in the desert
With colors flying high
There stands the man who doesn’t stop
To ask, “What, Where, or Why”

When danger threatens everything
That you and I hold dear
He’s standing guard, all through the night
So don’t you shed a tear

Unless the tear is for the man
Who’s out there in the sand
Because you want to hold him close
Or simply hold his hand

And tell him that he’s not alone
When he is standing there
And brush away the sand that's in
His ears, and boots, and hair

Remind him, God is by his side
The Bible tells us so
That He’ll protect him, night and day
Against the evil foe

And bring him safely back to us
On one triumphant day
The bravest soldier of them all
The one they call “Rene”
